IREG wanted to move beyond traditional dementia education by helping employees understand what it actually feels like to live with cognitive impairment. Their goal was to create a shared culture of empathy across every department while equipping staff with practical skills they could immediately apply in daily resident interactions.
Where it all started
In early 2026, IREG implemented Rendever's Dementia & Empathy Training across 7 assisted living and memory care communities in Texas.
Using immersive virtual reality, team members experience the sensory, cognitive, and communication challenges often associated with dementia, including hallucinations, perceptual changes, environmental confusion, and everyday tasks that become increasingly difficult.
Rather than limiting participation to nursing teams, IREG intentionally trained employees across the organization, including:
- Executive Directors & Administrative Teams
- Nursing & Caregivers
- Culinary Services
- Life Enrichment & Memory Care
- Housekeeping & Maintenance
- Sales & Marketing
- Family Caregivers
